The general competitive situation alone obliges Schenker Deutschland AG to achieve the greatest possible efficiency in transportation organisation. Because like everywhere else, the basic rules of economics apply to the logistics market.
Moreover, it is a golden rule of ecology that you use energy resources sparingly
and minimise any adverse environmental impact - and the more the economy grows,
the more consistently you do this.
The goal of the organisation of transport in keeping with the times can only
consist of combining economic and environmentally aware conduct. The route to
this goal leads via optimised vehicle utilisation with a simultaneous reduction
in vehicle runs. Schenker Deutschland AG always combines consignments wherever this is possible,
to the benefit of the company and its customers:
- by customer-orientated purchasing and distribution concepts and
- by the three-stage hub system.
Hub system
This consists of a central hub in Friedewald near Bad Hersfeld in Hessen and
two regional hubs in Hanover and Nuremberg. In accordance with the hub and spoke
principle, those consignments that cannot be delivered by direct transportation
for economic or ecological reasons are combined. This avoids unwanted dispatches
and unnecessary journeys - but as a rule we still maintain our 24hour lead times.
Ecologically relevant facts on the subject oftransportation organisation:
- If Schenker Deutschland AG wanted to process the same dispatch volume within the same delivery time without a hub system, our lorries would have to make about 25 % longer journeys.
- This results in an annual fuel saving of 2 million litres of diesel.
