Schenker Deutschland AG is an "official co-partner of the German Olympic teams in Turin in 2006 and Beijing in 2008" as well as an "official Olympic co-partner".
On November 4, 2003 in Frankfurt on Main, Michael Korn, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Schenker Deutschland AG, signed a relevant contract with Deutsche Sportmarketing GmbH (DSM). DSM is the exclusive merchandiser for the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe (Sports Aid Foundation) and hence the sole merchandiser of the rights relating to Olympic competition that apply in Germany. With the signing of the contract, DB Schenker is declaring its long-term commitment to the Olympic Games and top-level sport. "With this DB Schenker becomes the exclusive service provider for two further Olympic Games for all transportation services related to the German House," explained Axel Achten, the Managing Director of DSM. During the Games the German House is the official meeting point of the German Olympic team, journalists and business representatives. As an official partner in the area of "haulage services," DB Schenker will carry out numerous transportation tasks for top sportspeople, the media, organizers, sponsors and organizations.
" DB Schenker has already contributed to ensuring that top performance was at all possible at the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City in 2002, in Sydney and in Munich with the planning and execution of transportation," reported Board Member Michael Korn. "As one of the world's leading suppliers of services in the areas of overland transportation, air and sea freight and exhibitions and events, we have decades of experience in services for many major sports events." Thus, for instance, DB Schenker transported over 13,000 tons of freight to Salt Lake City on time, reliably and securely. The equipment of many athletes and the national Olympic committees was collected, packed, put into airfreight containers, with the customs formalities taken care of and security regulations observed and, after the Winter Games, returned by the quickest route to the countries it had come from. This included among other things all of the very delicate equipment of many of the radio and television companies from all over the world."
For over 10,000 DB Schenker employees in Germany and for over 36,000 employees around the world, the contract signed today is a further obligation to give the best performance at what are probably the most important sports events in the world. And success at sports is inseparably connected with perfect performance", said Michael Korn.
